AVV I/S – The waste company of western Vendsyssel

Company profile
AVV I/S is the regional waste company, handling waste from the municipalities Brønderslev, Hirtshals, Hjørring, Løkken-Vrå and Sindal. We have been handling waste from citizens and companies in this area since 1988. We aim at treating the waste with environmental care and in an economically sustainable manner. AVV has achieved the international environmental certificate, ISO 14001, and the European approval, EMAS. The company employs 90 persons altogether.

Our activities
AVV consists in these divisions:

• 11 recycling sites, where the citizens hand in waste for recycling
• Two recycling sites for companies
• Recycling centre, taking care of separating and treating recyclable waste
• Waste-to-energy plant, where household garbage is incinerated and turned into electricity and district heating
• Landfills with storage and depositing of waste
• Recycling shop
• Educational centre, where school classes and others can learn about environmental care and recycling

Services for tourists
In the summer residence areas, household garbage is collected 26 times a year. You can also use the containers for recyclable glass and paper, you may hand in waste at the recycling sites or you can pay a visit to our recycling shop.

If you spend your holidays at a camping site or at a hotel, you can still benefit of our services. Many of the regional camping sites take part in AVV’s arrangement “Grøn Camping” (“Camping with environmental care”), which obliges them to hand in waste for recycling. Likewise, many hotels carry our brand “Tjek på affaldet” (“Skilled at handling waste”), which ensures the recycling of glass, paper and the like.

Recycling shop
The recycling shop offers inexpensive furniture, clothing, articles for everyday use etc. The AVV recycling shop is situated at Mandøvej 4 in Hjørring (in the industrial area). Opening hours are weekdays 12 a.m. -5.30 p.m.
